Bio

Kurt Herman began playing drum set and percussion at the age of 10.  In college, he studied marimba, vibraphone and percussion with Jack Van Geem.  He has shared the stage and/or recorded with Tim Bruneau, Valentina Osinski, Rich Delgrosso, Keith Pray, Jeff Oehling, Dave Barrows, Chris Macchia, Pete Sweeney, Phil Nestor, Vince Leggiere, Tom Charlap, Awan Rashad, Tarik Shah, Ed Wasilewski, Nancy Donnelly, Dan Palladino, Samantha Jane, and Peter Washington.  Kurt has pioneered the use of 5 mallets with a 4 octave vibraphone as a solo instrument. He is the leader of The Kurt Herman Duo, Trio, and Quartet. The Quartet plays jazz standards including songs by Pat Metheny, Wayne Shorter, Steps Ahead, and the Modern Jazz Quartet.  Their original material combines elements of Jazz, New Classical Music, and Electronica.   Kurt uses a Deagan Electravibe and a Malletkat for his Quartet.

A life long educator, Kurt’s 5 mallet 4 octave  instructional videos have garnered over 20,000 views on YouTube in the last  year.
